In God there is no trace of purity. He always is right and He always does what is right.
Today's video is on the Holiness of God. Looking for some answers, Kyle and I went to Trinity Reformed Church to get Pastor van Eyk's thoughts on the subject. This is Faith to Film.
When we think about the holiness of God we ought to think about two things. First of all he is completely apart and separate from his creation and secondly we are to think of his moral purity.
0:32 What does it mean to be set apart?
Well in the case of God to be set apart means that He is the creator of all things and everything else exists as His creation and there's a distinctness, the transcendence about God. He is not a part of the creation, He is outside of it as the maker of it.
0:54 What does it mean to be righteous?
For God to be pure and righteous means that He is morally without any fault, in any way. Either in His nature, or in His actions. I have some silver coins at home that are 99.9 percent pure. So, there are trace impurities in them but in God there is no trace impurity. He always is right and He always does what is right. There's a passage in the scriptures where it speaks about how it is impossible for God to lie. His character and nature is such that He is always pure and holy. He's never tempted to sin, there is no inclination at all within Him to do anything wrong. He is morally pure.
1:45 Can humans be holy?
When we speak about the holiness of Christians we know that the bible says that they are holy. They are sanctified. That's why the new testament calls them saints. There's another aspect to the holiness of Christians. They are "dead to the power of sin" the apostle Paul says in Romans 6. Dead to sin transferred from the kingdom of darkness and brought into the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ. But there is still within Christians remaining sin and so Christians must fight hard to root out that sin, to kill it and to offer their lives as holy, that is, as pleasing to the Lord in every way. So that they reflect increasingly in their day-to-day lives the character of the Lord Jesus Christ who is holy as the Son of God.
